Cooling Your Spa
Written by Dennis Schell
As you know, summer is in full swing by now, and boy can it get hot here in Southern California! This time of year, some spa users prefer to have slightly cooler water temperatures than the rest of the year, and they re-set the thermostat to reduce the automatic temperature level by a degree or two compared to the fall or winter. Sometimes, users prefer a temperature that is noticeably below maximum therapy level. Of course, you can reset the thermostat temperature by keying in a new, lower temperature on the spa control panel.

To quicken the cooling process, simply open the cover to allow the outside air to help cool down your spa water. If you have reduced the thermostat setting far enough, the water temperature will eventually match the outside air temperature—which can still be quite warm, particularly in the inland and desert sections of our region. But before opening the cover to more quickly cool your water, consider any late afternoon breezes in your area that might drop dust, airborne plant blossoms, etc. into your water. It might be better to wait until an hour or two later in the day if you typically experience daily breezes that are strong enough to carry airborne debris.

If there is a more urgent need to quickly cool the water, such as a children’s party (kids love water, but not necessarily for therapy reasons like you and I might), simply get some bags of ice from the store and drop the ice into the tub shortly before the spa will be used. Double-check that the thermostat setting has been reduced to, or below, the outside air temperature.

Your ThermoCoverTM is energy-efficient to the point that when the cover is re-closed after spa use, your water temperature should rise at 5 to 8 degrees per hour until it reaches the temperature setting you have entered into the spa control panel. This allows for the typical late-evening usage at a warmer temperature therapy level after the spa was used at a cooler temperature earlier in the day.

Make sure that your usage of your ThermoSpas hot tub is always safe and fun for everyone in your household, family, and circle of friends.

Happy ThermoSpas Hot Tubbing!
